Obituary

Aldona Dulbis Michlein, 93, of Southbury, died Friday, August 26, 2011 at the River Glen Health Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl Michlein. They were married in 1949. Aldona was born in Bridgeport, CT, September 15, 1917, daughter of the late Joseph L. and Eva Kukler Dulbis. She graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport. During World War II, in 1942, she worked at the Manning, Maxwell and Moore industrial plant to fill the void in manufacturing as men went off to war. She volunteered with the USO by passing out coffee and food to the soldiers leaving for the war at the Bridgeport Railroad Station. In 1945 Aldona was presented with the Meritorious Service certificate by the USO. Aldona was an accomplished musician and in the 1950's she was the director of the Wilson Club Choralettes which gave concerts throughout the area. In addition to her musical talents, she was an artist who specialized in water colors and enjoyed teaching art classes. She and Carl lived in Monroe for 20 years before moving to Southbury in 1973. While in Southbury, they opened the Country Fare Lamp Shop, a lamp restoration business. Aldona was a member of the Southbury Business Association, a former board member of the Southbury Library and a founding member of the Southbury Land Trust. Aldona and Carl built and enjoyed a cabin on Glasgo Pond in Voluntown, CT. They spent many summers swimming and canoeing with friends and family. She is survived by a nephew, Richard Schreyer and his family. She also leaves many dear friends who were always at her side, in particular, Joan and David Templeton who were like family to Aldona. She was predeceased by her beloved son, William Michlein, her sister Biruta Schreyer and her brother Ged Dulbis.

Funeral: St. Thomas the Apostle

Services: A memorial mass will be held Saturday, September 3 at 10: 00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. Burial will be private.
