William Duckworth Obituary

WOODBURY – William Duckworth, 69, died on Friday, July 19, 2019 from metastatic lung cancer at Yale New Haven Hospital with his children, Willem and Anna Lieve, comforting him to the end.

Bill was born March 13, 1950, in Littleton, Colorado, the son of the late M. Wayne Duckworth and Mary Catherine (Heckethorn) Duckworth.

He was graduated from Rhodes College with a degree in English Literature. His unconventional path through life included time spent at places from Truro, Cape Cod to Greenwich Village with occupations ranging from woodworker to editor. He was an editor at Fine Woodworking magazine in Newtown, Connecticut for ten years.

Bill was an Eagle Scout in Tennessee where he spent his later childhood and was a Scout leader and Committee member for Troop 54 in Woodbury. After surviving a rare cancer diagnosed in 2012, he volunteered at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital for many years until his recent illness prevented him from continuing.

A lover of nature, he spent most of his life in Connecticut, where he raised his most precious children and is survived by his former wife, Jennifer Huxtable Hus Duckworth.

He leaves his sisters Catherine Silling and Susan Cramer, and brothers, Steven Labout and Michael Labout and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Anne Marie Salipante and Patricia Caprio and his brother, Richard Duckworth.
