Virginia (Peterson) Gustafson

Virginia Gustafson 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday March 15th at Waterbury Hospital.  She was the devoted wife of the late Walter (Whitey) Gustafson for 48 years.

Virginia was born May 3, 1921 in Washington, daughter of Harold and Anna (Anderson) Peterson.  She graduated from Washington High School and was bookkeeper for her husband’s business.

Virginia was the oldest member of the Salem Covenant Church in Washington and served on many committees including the building of the present church.

Virginia leaves her son Fred and his wife Maureen, her daughter Ginny and husband Andrew Napolitano, her daughter Elaine Babiyan, her sister Norma Cummings of Naples, Florida, five grandchildren, Wendy Napolitano, Andrea Roden, Victoria Jensen, Phillip and Matthew Gustafson and fourteen great grandchildren.  She also leaves a niece and nephew and several cousins.

In addition to her husband Virginia was predeceased by her son-in-law Paul Babiyan, her brother and his wife Harold (Pete) and Maryanne Peterson, her sister Louise and husband Edward Dodd, her brother-in-law Nelson F. Cummings and her niece Carol (Marggraff) Mitchell.

The family would like to thank the staff at River Glen, Waterbury Hospital Emergency Department, Pomeroy 7 and Vitas for the wonderful care Virginia received.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21st,  11 am at Salem Covenant Church in Washington.
