She went to college while raising her two children and earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees in early childhood education from Hofstra University.  As an outstanding elementary school teacher in Merrick, NY for many years, countless children were inspired by her warm, caring and sensitive manner.  She was a life member of Hadassah and was a longtime member of Temple Beth El in North Bellmore. Upon her retirement she moved to Heritage Village in Southbury, Connecticut where she became a watercolor and pastel artist. Thelma was instrumental in the founding of not only a Jewish community in Southbury, but was also an active member of B’nai Israel of Southbury.
