SOUTHBURY - Theda Irene (Elwood) Geddes, 100, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019, 13 days before her 101st birthday. She resided at The Lutheran Home in Southbury. She was the devoted wife of the late Ralph J. Geddes for 50 years before his passing in 1988. Theda was born on March 27, 1918, daughter of the late Richard and Ethel (Abell) Elwood in East Fairfield, Vermont. Upon her marriage to Ralph they moved to Connecticut from Vermont in the 1930’s. In addition to her husband, Theda was predeceased by her son Roddy Geddes Sr., and grandson Roddy Geddes Jr. One of (10) ten children, Theda was predeceased by her brothers - Guy, Aubrey, Donald, Wayne, Raymond, and Roger Elwood. Also, her sisters Loretta Boudro and Charlene Mashia. Theda is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Daniel) DeBarba, Sr. Of Wolcott, son, Robert (Kathryn) Geddes of Watertown, daughter-in-law, Barbara Geddes of Plymouth. Theda also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Daniel DeBarba, Jr., Michael DeBarba, Rory Geddes, Ryan Geddes, Richard Geddes, Matthew Geddes and Ralph Geddes. In addition she leaves 17 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Beulah Shaw in Colorado, former daughter-in-law Donna Geddes, and several generations of nieces and nephews. Theda’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Lutheran Home of Southbury for their exemplary care. Particularly the staff in the Schuster wing specializing in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care for their compassion, professionalism and patience. Theda will be remembered for many attributes. Among them being hard-working, honest, not afraid to speak her mind, feisty, a great cook, and staunch defender of the grand kids. She lived a long and extraordinary life. She will be missed. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2019, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at Munson-Lovetere funeral home located at 235 Main St. N, Southbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
