Watertown-
Stephen Yonych, Sr. 88, passed away at Waterbury hospital Saturday, April 21, 2018 surrounded by family. He was the husband of Sheila (Fisher) Yonych.
Stephen was born in New York City, June 23, 1929 to immigrant parents, the late William and Mary (sobeska) Yonych. He lived in Galway, NY where he attended school and played basketball. He was a veteran of the Untied States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. Stephen was the co-pilot of a B-27 bomber and flew 27 missions with success. He then went on to fly for Pan American World Airways and United Airlines, of which he retired from. He loved to fly and had his own small airplane that he flew family members to Canada, Maryland and other places not too far from home. He also enjoyed working on his cars and building things around his homes.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 33 years Sheila (Fisher) Yonych, children: Alexis Yonych, NV, Gail (Yonych) Boyd, FL, Stephen Yonych, CT, Kevin Barry, CT, Kate (Barry) Bergeron, CT and his sister Lillian Yonych, NY, also nieces in MD and a nephew in DE, and 5 grandchildren.
Stephen is predeceased by his bothers Alexander and Andrew and sister Olga.
Friends may call the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School Street on Thursday April 26, from 10 to 11 am with a service at 11. Burial with full minitary honors will be held in the Ct Veteran cemetery at 1 pm, in Middletown.
