Robert Andrew McDonald of Southbury, formerly a long-time resident of Ridgefield, passed away on June 20, 2018. Born in Stamford, CT on December 10, 1925 to Adah and Harold McDonald.
He is survived by Carol, his wife of 68 years, his six children: Robert (Diane) McDonald of Newtown, CT Mary Jo (Anthony) Schimaneck of Lancaster, PA; Peter (Nanette) McDonald of Salem, WV; Thomas (Irene) McDonald of North Granby, CT; Elizabeth (John) Demeyer of Southbury, CT and Emily Wilcox of Arnold, MD and his 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and his sister, Marilyn Hoffman of Sandy, UT. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold.
Robert was a graduate of Darien High School and Fordham University. He was in the United States Navy during World War II, serving as the Quartermaster of the ship USS Finch.
Robert began his professional career as a physicist at American Optical Company. He was employed at Barnes Engineering for 22 years becoming Senior Vice President. He then worked as President of Fairfield Medical until his retirement in 1995.
Robert served as a volunteer for many years for Meals on Wheels.
He shared his love of golf with Carol and son Robert. He was a single digit handicap golfer until age 70. Taking care of his family and his home were his top priority. He worked tirelessly around his home with home improvement projects until he moved from his home in Ridgefield.
Visitation with the family will be Friday June 22, 2018 from 4-6 pm with Eulogies by the family at 5:30 pm at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St., N., Southbury.
