Robert Lewis Jr Obituary

Robert Vincent Lewis, Jr. 96, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 19th at the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

Born on Highland Avenue, Waterbury, Connecticut on July 4, 1922.  He was the son of Robert V. Lewis, Sr. and Mary Packard Lewis.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Jean MacGregor Lewis, and survived by two sons, David H. Lewis of Woodbury and Robert S. Lewis of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, two grandsons, Geoffrey D. Lewis, and Peter M. Lewis both of Woodbury, and four great-grandchildren, Megan, Katelyn, Hobie and James Lewis all of Woodbury, and nephew Roger Kirouac of Haddam.  He will be greatly missed by his cousin, Leona Trowbridge, 101 years young, also a resident at River Glen.

He graduated from Bunker Hill Grammar School and Crosby High School in Waterbury.  He worked first at the Waterbury Clock Company, JEM Plastics, and the U.S. Time Corporation which later became Timex. He was employed for 32 years as a product engineer at the American Brass Company, Anaconda Metal Hose Division of Atlantic Richfield until his retirement in 1982.  He was a brother of King Solomon’s Lodge No. 7 Woodbury and active for years in the Blue Trail District of Connecticut Boy Scouts.

In his retirement he took up golf and pursued his hobbies of tinkering with vintage automobiles and antique clocks.  He and his late wife, Jean, traveled to Europe, spent time visiting friends in New Hampshire and Florida, but their favorite vacation spot was Cape Cod where they celebrated almost every wedding anniversary. He had a soft spot in his heart for all animals, except squirrels that came to the bird feeder.

The family would like to thank the staff of River Glen for the loving care that he received.  A Funeral Service will be held at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St. Woodbury on Thursday, August 23rd at 11 AM with burial to follow at the New North Cemetery, Woodbury.  In lieu of flowers friends may send memorial donations to the Connecticut Audubon Society, or Flanders Nature Center.
