Patricia Pape Obituary

*Funeral Services and burial will be held August 14, 2020 at 11 A.M., location will be determined closer to date of service.

Patricia Moran Pape passed away peacefully, surrounded with the love of family, on Dec. 4, 2019, at Waterbury Hospital.

Born in Waterbury to Constance Moran and Thomas F. Moran, Patricia attended Waterbury schools. After graduating from St. Margaret's School in Waterbury, Pat moved to Manhattan and worked for Time Life. Returning to Waterbury, Pat married the late William J. Pape II, publisher of the Waterbury Republican-American newspapers. Together, Bill and "Pretty" (as he affectionately called her) raised their two sons, Will and Andrew, in Middlebury.

Although she volunteered in many civic activities including the Fundraising Committee for the American Cancer Society, the Middlebury Garden Club, the Women's Committee at the Mattatuck Museum and the Summer Garden Party Committee at the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Garden, Pat focused her energies on family, a constant and deep source of pride.

Pat freely gave her time and love to family and friends who knew her simply as GrandPatty. Always quick with a smile, laugh, or an occasional opinion, Pat relished being with her family whether on vacation, at the beach in Madison, or the farm in Woodbury. She enjoyed feeling the sun shine on her face, tending to her gardens and plants, visiting antique stores and flea markets, and being with her numerous dogs.

She will be greatly missed and is survived by son William B. Pape II and his wife Barbara Bradbury-Pape, daughter-in-law Chrissie Pape, and grandchildren Alexandra, Annabelle, Caroline, Jamieson and Julia Pape. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Thomas F. Moran, his wife Joan Moran and her sister-in-law Patricia Moran. Also, she is survived by numerous nephews and nieces and their children, all of whom she loved as if they were her own. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William J. Pape, her son Andrew J. Pape, grandson Bolton K. Pape, brother Peter Moran, sister Joan Moran, sister Constance "Chere" Pape and her husband Richard J. Pape; sister-in-law Brenda P. Poindexter and her husband Charles "Sandy" Poindexter.
