Nicholas Hadad Obituary

Nicholas M. (Nick) Hadad passed away Monday November 18, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness.  He had his family at his side.  He was the husband of Vera Crunden Hadad of Southbury and the son of the late Michael and Karime (Showah) Hadad.

Nick was born on April 3, 1934 at his home in Danbury.  He attended Danbury Schools, including Danbury State Teachers College where he earned his bachelors and masters degree in music education, specializing in percussion. His love for music began with the Danbury Fife and Drum Corps.  He enjoyed all types of music with a passion for Jazz.  During college Nick formed many long lasting friendships and often played in a band with these friends.  His first career was as a music teacher in Monson, MA, Southbury and Norwalk, CT.  He taught drum lessons and worked at Eddie Kane's Music Store for many years.  In the 70's Nick opened Nick's Crossroad Package store and ran his business until his retirement in 1994.

As an avid reader, he made weekly trips to the library all his life.  He was a master of crossword puzzles and quite often could be spotted doing the New York Times crossword in pen.  He was a devote fisherman and he especially loved fly fishing on the Farmington and Housatonic Rivers.  Nick was a member of Trout Unlimited.  His favorite pastime in his retirement, when he was not fishing, was taking day trips to the casino with his wife Vera.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, he leaves his daughters Karen Hadad-Meyers of New York, Ellen (James) Blazys of Watertown, son Christopher (Jane) Hadad of Woodbury.  Twelve grandchildren: Katie-Lynn (Chris) Williams, Michael Aquilar, Jillian (John) Hawkins, Kirsten Hadad, Amanda Hadad, Benjamin Filchak, Nicholas Filchak, Jason Aquilar, Tricia Aquilar, Stacey Breton, Jessica Tracy-Meyers, Jenna Blazys and twelve great grandchildren.   His brothers John (Joanne) Hadad of New Fairfield, Louis (Loralee) Hadad, of Florida, sister Marion (Robert) Horton of New Milford.  Sister-in-law Patricia (George) Hadad of Newtown, Elaine (Monroe) Kelemencky of Woodbury.  He was predeceased by his brothers George Hadad and Albert Hadad.   He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
