Nancy van Norden

April 11, 1956 ~ January 31, 2017 (age 60) 60 Years Old

SOUTHBURY – Nancy van Norden, 60, passed away on January 31, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital.  She was born in Hanover, New Hampshire on April 11, 1956, daughter of the late Arthur and Phyllis (Morse) van Norden.

Nancy graduated from Hanover High School and then traveled across the United States with her good friend Winnie and family. During her travels she had many adventures, including protesting the treatment of Native Americans and hanging out with Sly and the Family Stone.  She lived in Montreal and worked at Hockey Magazine, afterwards moving to Danbury where she worked at Marcus Dairy.  Nancy resided in Southbury for almost thirty years. She was a volunteer and an aide in the Region 15 schools working with children with special needs. Nancy was the Land Use/GIS Coordinator for the Planning Department of the Town of Southbury for many years.

Nancy (“Nan”) loved interior design, sewing, and knitting, but gardening was her favorite passion.  She was an avid reader, and especially loved the works of Charles Dickens. She was an amazing Mother, a true Yankee, and a devoted friend.

She is survived by her loving son Matthew Lundberg, who was her greatest joy, and his wife Erin of Hallowell, Maine, her sister Maureen van Norden of Cusco, Peru, and her brothers H. van Norden of Spain, Stefan van Norden of Hanover, and Thomas van Norden, as well as her dog Baxter and cat Beatrix who brought her many laughs.  In addition to her birth family, Nancy is survived by her chosen family, the Burkes of Southbury.  Nancy is predeceased by her brother James van Norden, her dear friends Anne Ladd of Cape Cod and Jane Flahive of Southbury, and her loyal dog Addy.  Nancy will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the South Britain Congregational Church, 693 South Britain Road, Southbury, CT.  Internment will be private.
