Nancy Bennington Obituary

Nancy Bennington, 85, passed away at Springbrook Center in Westbrook, Maine on June 16, 2018. Nancy resided in Maine since 2006 after relocating to be nearer to her dear sisters Alice Branson and Judy Plummer. Nancy was born February 23, 1933 to Dale and Helen Mitchell of Woodbury, Connecticut. She was the youngest of three sisters; the family lived in Woodbury on Main Street and then Flanders Road.

Nancy had many chapters to her life. As a naval officer’s wife, she traveled from Norfolk to Hawaii to Mayport – and in between. Nancy settled in Jacksonville for several years with her three children, enjoying boating, entertaining and pursuing her art. Returning to Woodbury in 1968, Nancy and children settled in across the street from her mother and sister’s family. Nancy began her retail career and would become the store manager at the Cumberland Farms in Woodbury and then eventually open her own furniture store in Danbury.

By the 1980’s, Nancy discovered her true calling – yoga and massage therapy. She was certified at the Kripalu Institute and became active in the Woodbury Meditation and Yoga center. During this time, Nancy traveled with a group to India to study Kundalini Maha Yoga under Shri Anandi Ma.  Nancy taught yoga in the greater Woodbury area and practiced massage therapy at Dr. Loreen Daigle’s office in Middlebury until her retirement in 2006.

Nancy touched many lives through her gentle, caring spirit. Wherever her travels took her, she found enjoyment in connecting and being helpful to others. Many a time, one would find Nancy and her sisters laughing their way through a new caper or enjoying themselves playing a challenging game of dominoes. She was beloved by family and those who knew her.

Nancy leaves behind her daughter Lisa Creighton and, husband, Jack of Cohasset, MA; her son Christopher Taylor of Woodbury, CT; her sister Judy Plummer of Westbrook, ME; her granddaughter Megan Dockery and, husband, Bryan, and great grandsons Brody and Kolby of Owens, MD; her granddaughter Rebecca Weir and, husband, Chris of Chicago, IL; her nieces Charlie (Priscilla) Hinkley, Lucy Littlejohn and Alexandrea Taylor; her nephews Dale Plummer, John Plummer and Dana Plummer. Nancy was preceded in death by her son Barth Doroshuk, and sister Alice Branson.

A Celebration of Life service will be on July 28th, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, located at 2 School Street, Woodbury, Connecticut. Interment will be private.
