March 14, 1936 ~ April 30, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old


N. Charles Schwabacher, 81, of Bethlehem passed on to his final journey on April 30, 2017.  Born on March 14, 1936 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Gerhard P. and Alice (Ferron) Schwabacher. He was known by his family and friends as a fun-loving, generous man.  He enjoyed photography, meeting new people, quiet time with family and friends and parties!

Charlie is survived by his spouse Genevieve (Jenny) Sulak,   two daughters Caroline Malatesta (Edward) and Linda Dechert (Robin), his ex-spouse and friend Sylvia Schwabacher, his treasured grandchildren Jennifer Deko (Bryan) and  Harry N. Pender (Danielle Murphy),  great grandchildren,- Wyatt Docker, Austyn Deko, Bella, Harry Jr. and Abigail Pender,  nieces  Evelyn and Carrie Schwabacher, dear friend Harry R. Pender and step-son, Robert Sulak (Claudia),

He was predeceased by his beloved brother, William.

He spent many years in the construction industry, negotiating, supervising and managing  the construction of commercial properties.  He loved his job and did it well.  After his retirement he lived in Middletown New York for a number of years.  With a special place in his heart for animals, he volunteered, then became president of the Middletown Humane Society.

Later, he and his wife moved to their home at Long Meadow Lake in Bethlehem where he had spent his youthful years and was always drawn back to.  His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved going to “the Lake” where they spent quality time with Charlie and the rest of the family fishing, swimming and boating.

He will forever be in our hearts.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday May 12th at 11 am at the Church of the Nativity, 48 East Street, Bethlehem, Ct. There will be a breakfast brunch following at the Painted Pony Restaurant, 74 Main Street S., Bethlehem, Ct.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Charlie’s name to A Place Called Hope, a bird of prey rehabilitation center, a 501[c] 3 organization.
