Michael G. O'Neil

Michael G. O’Neil, 60, of Seymour who spent 35 years working at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford manufacturing helicopters, a father, husband and beloved brother to seven siblings, has died. His passing occurred on Aug. 27.

Mr. O’Neil, who grew up in Southbury, is predeceased by his father George W. O’Neil and mother Mary H. O’Neil. He is survived by his former wife Joanna and son Brendan as well as his siblings: Lourdes Haynes of New London and her husband James; Lisa Fitzpatrick of Glastonbury and her husband Paul; Patrick O’Neil and his wife Debbie of Chester; Martin and his wife Conniy of New Hampshire; Liam O’Neil of Westbrook, Benedict O’Neil and his wife, Lori, of Essex and Margaret O’Brien and her husband John of Killingworth.

In addition he is survived by many nieces and nephews:  Emma Dzula, Bessie Haynes, Liam Fitzpatrick, Luke Fitzpatrick, Georgia O’Neil, Bea O’Neil, Mary O’Neil, Beth O’Neil, Lindsey Rocke, Lily O’Neil, Jack O’Brien and Nick O’Brien, and the greats, Dorian and Rakia Poulard, Colin Rocke and Caroline Fitzpatrick.  He also is survived by his former mother in law of whom he was very fond, Mrs. Ishier Jacobson, and by a multitude of Hubbard and Burke cousins.

Mr. O’Neil was an avid saltwater fisherman who enjoyed sports and outdoor activities. He grew up in a large household in a pre-Colonial home on Main Street in Southbury.  He played football, hockey and tennis while a four-year, full scholarship student at The Gunnery School in Washington, Conn., from where he was graduated in 1975. Mr. O’Neil also attended Manhattan College in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Mr. O’Neil was also an avid rugby player for several club teams in the Fairfield County area.

His family and friends recalled his generosity, warmth and humor as well as his devotion to his relatives, friends and colleagues whom he held close. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Woodbury at 11 a.m. on Oct. 13.
