Maria Dusek

Southbury, Mrs. Dusek 82, of Southbury passed away from a long illness at River Glen Nursing Home of Southbury, on February 1st, 2017. She was the widow of Henry J. Dusek who died on Saturday March 5th, 2005.

Mrs. Dusek was born on October 1st, 1934 in the Bronx, New York. She graduated from Monroe High School and then went on to Secretarial College.

After various secretarial jobs she landed her first big job as a secretary at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bio-Chemistry Department, she then proceeded to move up through the ranks and departments. In doing so, she became a very active member/delegate of her Union 1199, in which she received numerous awards of special recognition in her participation and hard work in union advocacy for equal pay, and working conditions for all employees. She then received the highest level secretary position at the level of Administrative Secretary. She then retired after 35 years of work in 1999.

She was an animal lover and movie buff who for 25 years also enjoyed and never missed watching the WWE and Smack Down Wrestling. Her passion for crossword puzzles and reading was a must. She also enjoyed keeping up with world affairs. She also collected Tweedy Bird figurines and knickknacks.

She is survived by her daughter Maria Zimmerman of Southbury, her son in-law Dennis Zimmerman of Southbury, and her brother Vito DiPinto of Lake Mohegan, New York.
