Margaret W. Ftikas, 91, died peacefully on May 24, 2017 in Danbury Hospital. She was born in Albany New York on December 12, 1925, to the late Walter and Dorothea Woodward. A 1948 graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Peggy worked for the United States Foreign Service in Japan and Greece, and moved to Fairfield in 1963. She returned to school for an MA in education, and taught at Wilbur Cross School in Bridgeport for 23 years. After retirement, she volunteered at Sherman Elementary School in Fairfield, Meals-On-Wheels, and for the CT Volunteer Service for the blind, recording books and reading to the visually impaired. Peggy owned and nurtured many rescue dogs in her lifetime and promoted dog obedience training. She had a deep appreciation of the natural world, taught her many pupils to love and respect nature, and was an avid gardener. She supported the Nature Conservancy, Audubon society, Cornell lab of Ornithology and the World Wildlife Fund, and in her later years enjoyed sitting on her patio surrounded by flowers, birds, trees and her beloved dog Coco.

In addition to her parents Peggy was predeceased by her brother John Woodward. She is survived by her former husband George D. Ftikas and his wife Dorothy, of Falls Church, Virginia, her cousins, Wendy Brandow and Austin Woodward, both of New York, and good friends David Mullins of Southbury and Lynne Penczer of Fairfield, as well as three Nieces.
