Marcelle P. (Pronovost) Crean

August 28, 1927 ~ June 29, 2019 (age 91)

Marcelle Crean of Middlebury died on 6/29/19. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Crean for 51 years, he died on June 25, 1999. Marcelle was born in Waterbury on August 28, 1927, the  daughter of the late Pierre and Mary Hope Pronovost.

Marcelle was a graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1945. She worked at the Bristol Company as a Secretary and at the Naugatuck Chemical in Naugatuck as a Secretary.

She was the owner/director of the Mother Goose Nursery School in Watertown for seven years.

Marcelle was active in the Ladies Guilds of St. Patrick’s Church in Waterbury, Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, and St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. She held different offices of Secretary or President.  She served a 6 year term as an Eacharistic Minister at St. Thomas in Oxford. 

Marcelle and her husband Tom fostered over 30 newborn babies during a period of 12 years, until the babies were ready to be placed for adoption through Catholic Family Services in Waterbury- now named- Catholic Charities of Waterbury. They moved to Southbury where Marcelle volunteered at the Southbury Public Library for 17 years. She was awarded the Volunteer of the Year in 2008.

She leaves her son Dennis and his wife Laura of Farmington, her daughters Peggy DeFloria of Waterbury and Polly Crean and her companion Ray Massi of Southbury. Her grandchildren - Maggie Crean of Colorado, Ken DeFloria and his wife Holly of Burlington, CT, Julian  DeFloria of Waterbury, and her step-granddaughter, Amy Kubeck of Boston. She also leaves her ex son-in-law Ken DeFloria and her ex daughter-in-law, Carol Crean. She leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews- four of whom are her Godchildren- Mark Stevens, James Pronovost, Linda Fodiman, and Ken Haddad. Marcelle was predeceased by her brothers Paul and Ralph Pronovost, her sisters Eloise Sevigny, Harriet Stevens, Lorraine Roberson, and Joan Pronovost as well as many Aunts, Uncles and dear fiends.

The family would like to thank her personal caregivers who have taken care of her for the past three months, Ida, Chris, Medet, and Melanie. They would also like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Vitas for their great care.

Calling hours will be Tuesday July 2, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N., Southbury. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday July 3, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Rd., Oxford. Burial will follow at Southford Cemetery.
