Lennie White (nee Lenora Anne Weiss) age 75, of Southbury Connecticut left us on Thursday, May 23, 2019.
Originally from East Meadow, New York, Lennie grew up on a farm and is preceded in death by her parents Anna Lena Weiss and Karl Kurt Weiss, who were wholesale florists. Lennie graduated with a degree in German Language and Literature from the University of Maryland in 1965 and did her graduate studies at Hofstra University in New York.
Lennie was a patient and devoted wife of Gordon for 53 years, his stated luckiest day being when they met. She was a giving and loving mother to her son Kurt (Rutherford, New Jersey) and daughter Kristen (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), and a dedicated grandmother to Lorelei, age 10, Luca, 9 and Annika, 8, whom she doted on and loved with complete joy. Lennie was a teacher (she taught high school German in East Meadow and Westbury, NY), volunteer, caregiver and mentor, and later worked as a home health aide in support of the elderly and terminally ill. She was a gracious host and close friend to many, never hesitating to lend her time and a helping hand. Lennie was an avid tennis and bridge player, playing with many friends over the years. She delighted in her plants, creating a beautiful garden at her welcoming home. She and Gordon enjoyed traveling, taking driving trips and cruises throughout Europe and the US, and vacationing in winter in Barbados. Lennie was also a breast cancer survivor and had the strength and resilience of a lioness. She will be greatly missed.
Please celebrate her life on Saturday June 1st at St. James Lutheran Church, 111 Peter Road Southbury, CT. Service at 1pm with a reception to follow. Lennie loved her life and home in Southbury. Donations can be made to the Southbury Fuel or Food Bank or the Needy Fund.
