Welcome to the memorial page for

Josephine V. (Comarano) Huff

June 4, 1929 ~ August 13, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Mrs. Josephine V. Huff, 88, passed away quietly at home on August 13, 2017, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family members who had cared for her during her long struggle. Josephine was the loving wife of Russell B. Huff, they had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary a few weeks prior to her passing.

Josephine, born June 4, 1929, was known to her friends as “Jo”. She was a beautiful charming woman with a wonderfully spontaneous sense of humor- including a keen appreciation of the absurd. She loved music, art, gardening, reading, home decorating and keeping an immaculate home. She loved the times she and her husband spent near the ocean in Cape Cod and Rhode Island. In her early years, she worked in retail sales on Fifth Avenue in New York City after graduating from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, NY. After she and her husband moved to Woodbury around 1950, she was employed as an Aide and Cottage Charge at the Southbury Training School – a job she greatly enjoyed. She was always close to her sister, Marjorie who lived in New Jersey. Josephine grew up in a brownstone in Brooklyn, NY. – the daughter of Frank and Grace Comarano. Her father fought in combat in Europe during WW I and owned a bar on The Avenue of the Presidents during the Roosevelt era. Her mother, Grace Comarano, was the most extraordinary woman any of us are likely to ever meet. Her wit and vitality into her late 90s combined with her appearance, she was often mistaken for the character “Sofia” in the Golden Girls (much to her amusement). Jo with her husband raised three sons Russell C Huff and William L Huff of Woodbury and Brian F. Huff of New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kelly Parisi of Oxford, CT; Ryan Huff of Wake Forest, NC, Sean L Huff of Woodbury and Emily J Huff of Chicago, IL. Josephine’s great -grand children are: Ava Parisi of Oxford, CT, Eli and Allie Huff of Wake Forest, NC. She is survived by her niece Stephanie Turner and great niece Prudence Milligan of Richmond, VA and nephew Charles Norkus of Portland, OR. Josephine was predeceased by her sister Majorie Norkus and grandson Matthew W Huff.

The family would like to thank Tka, Dawn, Connie and Barbara for the outstanding care they provide to Mom in her final years.

Services will be held on Thursday August 24 at 11 am at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St., Woodbury, CT. Jo will be buried at the family plot at the New North Cemetery in Woodbury.
