John Barrett Obituary

John “Jack” Joseph Aloysius Barrett, 84, of Southbury, CT, previously of Cheshire, CT, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lowell, MA, on September 18, 1934 to John and Julia (Lynch) Barrett. Jack was happily married to his “bride” Evelyn (Swistak) for over 60 years.

Proud of his Irish heritage Jack wore many hats throughout his life including Daddy, Buppa, Papa Bear, Clam Man, and Lion Jack; with his greatest accomplishment being his family.  The epitome of a proud man, he wouldn’t hesitate to tell anyone and everyone about his beloved family.

Jack was a printer by trade and the proud owner of the Davis St Package Store in Oakville, CT for 20 years. He was an active member of the Watertown Lions Club serving as past President and a recipient of multiple prestigious awards including the Melvin Jones Fellow, the Connecticut Knight of the Blind, and Lifetime Membership. As a Lion, he supported many causes with the nearest to his heart being Safe Haven.

An avid Red Sox and Notre Dame fan, Jack took great pride in his love for both by introducing many family members, friends and even strangers to their first game. Jack also had a passion for clamming in Katama Bay on Martha’s Vineyard, his favorite getaway.

In addition to Evelyn and their cat Geno, Jack is survived by his daughters and their husbands Kathleen (Jeff) Hagstrom, Coleen (Michael) Holland, Sheila (Steven) Donnelly, and Sharon (Jerry) Pavlinsky. Jack was the proud Buppa to Amy (Jake) Thole, Jessica (Roger) Carter, Kelly (Nolan) Richard, Daniel Barrett Pavlinsky, Kevin Patrick Pavlinsky, and his great-granddaughter Julia. Jack is also survived by his sister-in-law Diane Swistak and many Irish relations whom he treasured connecting with throughout his life.  Jack is also survived by his sister Mary and his niece Pattiann.

Services will be held Monday, December 10 from 5 to 8 pm at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home in Southbury, CT. Funeral will be on Tuesday, December 11 at 10 am at the Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Watertown Lions Club.
