Janet Benoit, 77, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, with her family beside her at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Albert Benoit, married 55 years.
Jan was born March 16, 1942, the daughter of the late Rita and Lou LaFlamme.
Raised in Needham, MA, she attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, where she met and married the love of her life, Al. They shared a life of skiing and sailing, hosting the holidays and vacations on Cape Cod. Jan also enjoyed bowling, playing tennis and golf, and excelled at cooking.
Together they raised two children in North Andover, MA, and then Sandy Hook, CT. Jan was involved for many years with the League of Women Voters. They have resided in Oxford Greens for 14 years, where Jan was an active participant and original member of the Activities Committee. Jan was well known among the card and mahjong players in the community.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister-in-law Christine LaFlamme, and her mother-in-law Annette Benoit King.
Besides her beloved husband, she leaves behind her two children Jacques Benoit of Milford, and Michelle (and Thomas) Ecsedy of Woodbury. She was Grammy to five grandchildren: Stephen, Kelly, and Daniel Ecsedy as well as Jacques Jr. and Gabrielle Benoit. She also leaves behind two brothers, David LaFlamme and Raoul (and Joanne) LaFlamme, her brother-in-law Robert (and Gerry) Benoit, nephews and a niece.
A wake will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 9:00am – 10:30am at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home 235 Main Street North Southbury, CT. Funeral will follow at 11:00am at St. Thomas the Apostle church 733 Oxford Road Oxford, CT. Burial will be private.
