Irma Feigenbaum Hoffner, 92, of Watermark at East Hill died peacefully July 8, 2019 in her home. Formerly of Oronoque Village, Stratford, CT, Mrs. Hoffner was born April 26, 1927 in Manhattan, New York daughter of the late Abraham Feigenbaum and Rose Mary Merkin, who were both born in New York City. Mrs. Hoffner was the wife of the late Jerry Hoffner, whom she married June 20,1948 in New York, they were married 64 years.
Mrs. Hoffner was educated at Seward Park High School in New York, NY, and New York University, in New York, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
She was employed at the New York City Board of Education, she was an administrative assistant, a real estate agent and a newspaper columnist for Irma’s Garden of Eatin’. She helped her husband with his career in the shoe
business; actively engaging in many shoe shows and buying trips which led them from The Salvatore
Ferragamo Shoe Salon of New York to his own business in Stamford, Connecticut.
Her hobbies and interests: Cooking, antiques, decorating, writing, reading and traveling the globe with
her husband. One of her great pleasures was watching her grandchildren grow up.
Her survivors include her devoted daughter, Peri Swaniger, Esq., son-in-law Joseph Swaniger both of
Southbury, CT, her granddaughter Alyssa Lynch, Esq. and her husband Michael P. Lynch, Esq.
both of Milford, CT and her granddaughter Dr. Rachel Swaniger, O.D. of Manchester, NH, a sister
Mrs. Sheila Minsky and Niece and Nephews Melissa Prusher, Michael Minsky, Barton Schwartz,
Paul Schwartz and Rory Schwartz and all the relatives her daughter Peri has discovered in her vast pursuit of genealogy worldwide.
Mrs. Hoffner was a very devoted & loving wife, mother and grandmother, excellent role model,
who believed in independence and equality for woman and guided that her “girls” were well
educated with great careers.
A huge thank you to the devoted staff at the Inn at Cherrywood at the Watermark at East Hill
who were glad to lovingly care for Irma when she needed them!
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:00 am at Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street
North, Southbury, CT 06488. Shiva call to be announced at funeral. Burial will be in the Farband Cemetery in Morris, CT.
