Gloria Standard Obituary

Gloria LaVerne Weyand Sturman Standard, age 93, passed to the "Great Hereafter" on Monday, December 10, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born on February 10, 1925 in Waterbury and was the daughter of Leonard Henry Weyand and Myrtle Anderson.

She graduated from St Margaret's School (now Chase Collegiate) with the class of 1942. She graduated from Garland College in Boston (now Simmons College) with the class of 1944. 

Gloria served on numerous boards including the Waterbury Child Guidance Center, Waterbury Day Nursery, Waterbury Hospital Auxiliary, St Margaret's School, and St Paul's Church in Woodbury, CT. In addition to being a housewife and full-time mother to four lively boys, Gloria worked as the Food Director at McTernan's School in Waterbury.

Gloria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr John E Standard, her ex-husband, Dr Robert Sturman, and her stepson, David Standard.

Survivors include her dear sister, Joan, of Overland Park, KS and her three sons; Gloria’s four sons, Peter (Eileen) of Tonto Verde, AZ; Everett (Cathy Nimick) of Morrisville, VT; Bruce (Lynda) of Killingworth, CT and Jeffrey (Dori Talbot) of Williams, AZ; her five stepchildren: Deborah Standard of NYC; Sarah Peters (Lawrence) of Suffield, CT; John E Standard, Jr (Catherine Morgan) of North Kohala, HI; Janet Standard (Werner Doyle) of NYC; Robert Standard of Puna, HI; and her dearest and most special friend, Jane Pickett of Woodbury, CT. Gloria had 15 Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren as well as numerous friends from Pomperaug Woods and across the globe.

The family would like to thank the staff and personnel at VITAS Community Connection for the wonderful, loving care given to Gloria in her final days. The family also thanks the Pomperaug Woods community for their kindness and support.

Gloria, aka "Glory B," was our last member of The Greatest Generation - a smart, attractive, loving, gentle lady with a heart of gold, and an amazing memory. She lived her wonderful life filled with and surrounded by the love of her family, friends, and community. She is sorely missed. RIP Glo.
