Frances Brockett Obituary

Frances P. Brockett, 88, formerly of Granby died on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. Born March 22, 1930 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Frances was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida Louise Pearson. After graduating Basset High School in Bridgeport, she did a second senior year in San Diego, California taking business courses and band. Frances earned a Bachelors in Psychology in 1952 and a Masters in Biochemistry in 1955 both from Mount Holyoke College. She studied for a year at UConn, where she met Robert I. Brockett in 1953, who she married a year later.

Frances and Robert moved to Granby in 1954. While raising two sons and a daughter, she was an active church and choir member at the First Congregational Church. Frances also was an adult 4-H leader teaching sewing and an active Granby Grange member, holding various offices over the years. She worked five years as an aide to a legally blind student and a year as a classroom aide in the Hartland School. Frances became an active member of the Granville Quilt Guild in the 1990’s and served for a time as the treasurer. She enjoyed reading most of her life as well as knitting and doing jigsaw puzzles more recently adding crossword puzzles and coloring to her entertainments. Frances moved to The Hearth of Southbury after 61 years in Granby with the last two years as a widow to be closer to her son in Roxbury.

Frances is survived by her sister Florence P. Sharpe of Perry, Georgia; two sons, Robert O. Brockett of Windsor Locks and William E. Brockett and his wife Tina of Roxbury; a daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Sanders and her husband Jesse of Millersville, PA; and four grandchildren, Abigail Sanders, Thomas Sanders, Charles Brockett and Timothy Brockett. Her husband of 59 years predeceased her in 2013.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the First Congregational Church of Granby at 5:30. Private family interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Oak Hill Cemetery in Sterling, MA.
