Ethel (Atell) M. Fallon, 87, of Heritage Village died peacefully on August 2, 2019 in her home. Atell was born in 1932 in Manhattan, New York, daughter of the late James Cunningham and Ethel Cunningham. Atell was the wife of Hugh C. Fallon, whom she married December 26, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. They were married 63 years.
Atell was educated at Hunter College High School in New York, NY, and University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies.
Atell will be remembered for her joie de vivre, love of learning and art, and activism for positive social change. She valued independence and equality for woman, and sought practical action to assist women in family care. She lived her values and was full of compassion and empathy.
Atell is survived by her husband Hugh, her 3 daughters, Maura Fallon, Siubhan Fallon, and Deirdre Bird, and sons-in-law, Mark Gau and Dan Bird, and grandchildren Violet, Vincent, Hannah, and Ryan. She is also survived by her two brothers, Jim and John, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, and sisters, Doris and Grace.
