Elizabeth Stamm Wagner, 91, of Southbury, CT passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at The Watermark at East Hill. She was the wife of the late Reverend William O. Wagner, a former minister at the United Church of Christ in Southbury. Elizabeth was born in Reading, PA on June 13, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Carrie Stamm of Shillington, PA. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Kutztown State College, and she proceeded on to Hartford Seminary School where she received her master’s degree in religious education. It was in Hartford where she met her husband, William, and they were married for 44 years. Elizabeth was an educator, teaching in various schools and at her church, and she was an avid gardener and musician, with a special fondness for the cello. Elizabeth loved her immediate and extended family including Carolyn, daughter, and her partner Mike Heckendorf of Pomfret, CT; Richard, son, and Martha Wagner of Cambridge, MA together with her grandchildren, Claire Counsell and her husband Jake, William Wagner, and Eva Wagner; her siblings Margaret Coleman and Charles Stamm and their spouses, children, and their families. The family had a private service on September 27. The family requests that any gifts be made in Elizabeth’s honor to the Connecticut Audubon Society in Pomfret, CT.
