 Edwin John Corfey Sr, 93, of Southbury, died peacefully in his sleep, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Riverglen Rehabilitation, Southbury, CT. He was the beloved husband of the late Elsie (Hogan) Corfey.

 He was born September 3,1924 in Bridgeport, CT., the son of Edwin Roath Corfey and Elizabeth (Liebscher) Corfey. He was president of his high school in his senior year, Central High School in Bridgeport. He received a full scholarship to the University of Chicago majoring in mathematics, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He attended Dartmouth where he continued his mathematics studies along with map reading, naval history, geography and naval organization. Later in life he attended Yale University in New Haven to become a lay Minister for the Newtown Congregational Church.

 During World War II he served from 1942 to 1947 on the USS Van Valkenburgh, the USS Holland and the USS Sperry in the Pacific theater where he was an Iwo Jima survivor. He was a Signal man, Master of Ceremonies and Radio Announcer. He is listed on the Verteran's Wall at the Southbury Senior Center. He was a member of the VFW in Southbury and the American Legion.

 He worked as a salesman, buyer and manager at Howland's, Genung's and Carpet Clearance. After retirement he served as Lay Minister for the Newtown Congregational Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Knight's Templar Scottish Rite. He loved to entertain, write poetry, watch cowboy movies, go on cruises and be with his family.

 Besides his wife Elsie he leaves behind his children Sharon and her husband James Dawson of Southbury, his predeceased daughter Linda of New Hampshire, his son Edwin John Jr and his wife Lynn of Arkansas, his son Timothy Roath and his wife Cheri of Alameda, CA and his son Andrew Brian of Arkansas. He has eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

 There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held December 2, 2017 at 2 pm at the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West St, Newtown, CT. Burial will be private at the discretion of the family at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Middletown, CT. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home has entrusted with the arrangements.
