Edith McElwee Dyke of Woodbury CT passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Tues 21, 2017 at The Lutheran Home of Southbury CT, surrounded by her children. Edith was born Feb.16, 1925 in Westport CT. The daughter of the late Harold McElwee and Marion (Biddescombs) McElwee.

Edith as a young women grew up in Ridgefield CT where she worked as a telephone operator and then later on to Benrus Corporation Ridgefield. Technic Power and the Pic Corporation of Danbury CT.  Edith was a member of The First Congregational Church 103 Main Street Ridgefield CT where she taught Sunday school for many years under Rev. Lund.  Edith, also was a member of The Ridgefield Senior Grange and started the First Junior Grange in the Ridgefield and Danbury area.

Then moving to Woodbury CT where she resided with her daughter Jean and her husband Stephen McDevitt for twenty-six years. Edith was active with the Woodbury Senior Center, where she loved to play canasta and taught knitting. Edith was an avid reader and she loved to travel to Vermont and The Thousand Islands NY.

She leaves her son, George (Pat) Dyke of New Milford CT her daughters, Jean (Stephen) of Woodbury, CT and Gale ( Bill) Foote of Wilmington, NC and was predeceased by her son Gary Dyke formerly of Danbury CT. Edith enjoyed life with her eleven grandchildren and eight grandchildren.

The family would like to thank her caregivers and staff member of The Lutheran Home of Southbury for all their support and comfort. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
