WOODBURY – Darlene Patricia (Cabral) Start, 55, of Woodbury, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Nov. 1, 2017. She was born June 15,1962 in Bridgeport to the late Pearl (Ackerson) Cabral. She was the beloved wife of Christopher Start for more then 27 years. Darlene worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, having worked in several locations including Newtown, Wallingford, and East Hartford.  Active in the Boy Scouts of America, Darlene was awarded the Wood Badge.

Darlene was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching her favorite teams the Boston Celtics, the Dallas Cowboys, and the UConn Huskies. Most of all, she cherished every moment she was able to spend with her 5 grandchildren at home, traveling, camping, and cruising. Besides her husband she also leaves her mother-in-law, Ellen Smith, with whom she shared her home, her 2 sons, Michael Start of Bethlehem, and Frank Start of Islesboro, ME, their significant others Dana, and Sonya, and her grandchildren Brett, Kamren, Connor, Collin, Brooklyn, Abagail, and Hailey. Darlene was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Matthew, and is survived by her twin brother Doug Cabral, and brother Wayne Cabral, as well as her sisters Lorribeth Pavone, Lyn Allen, and Tracie Cabral, and their families. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart. Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm on Monday evening at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St., Woodbury. Services will be Tuesday at 10 am also at Munson Lovetere.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Camp Mattatuck Volunteers, P.O. Box 257, Plymouth, CT, 06782 (checks made payable to Connecticut Rivers Council), or to the Woodbury Fire Department, 25 Quassuk Road, Woodbury, CT 06798 in her memory.
