WOODBURY — Catherine Allen "Kitty" Michener, 93, of 93 Washington Rd., Woodbury, died Friday, January 4, 2019. She was the wife of Carroll Michener.
Kitty was born October 28,1925 in Bridgewater, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Evadnia (Dickinson) Allen. She attended Burnham School in Bridgewater and graduated from New Milford High School with the Class of 1944. She worked at Hart's 5 & 10 while going to high school and during World War II she worked at the G.E. Company, making flying suits for the Air Force.
After graduation, she worked as a secretary for Judd's Bridge Farms in New Milford, where she met her husband, Carroll. Later she worked for the G.C. Bristol Moving Company in New Milford, the A.L. Hodge Company in Roxbury and the Southbury Training School business office in Southbury.
After her children were grown, she did volunteer work. She was an EMT for the Woodbury Volunteer Ambulance Association and had been an American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer since 1984. She delivered lunches for the Woodbury Meals-on-Wheels program.
She was a resident of Woodbury since 1956. She was a member of North Congregational Church in Woodbury and the Women's Fellowship.
Besides her husband of 71 years, she leaves two sons, Alan and his wife, Noreen, of Bridgewater and their two daughters, Samantha and Cassandra, and Mark Michener and his wife, Danielle, of Exeter, R.I., and their children, Carolyn, Ted and Phil; a daughter, Karen Chisnall and her husband, John, of Nebo, N.C., and their daughter, Meghan Willis and her husband, Ben, and their children, Brady, Tessa and Annie of South Abington Township, Pa.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at North Congregational Church in Woodbury, followed by a reception at the church. Interment in North Cemetery in Woodbury will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Congregational Church Women's Fellowship Scholarship Fund.
