Fiercely Determined
Barbara Ann (Venditti) Galvin, 64, of Woodbury, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, surrounded by her devoted husband and children after a heroic battle with cancer. Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Venditti, who met while John was serving in the United States Army in Austria as a Sergeant First Class. Barbara was born and raised in Waterbury, CT, attending Bunker Hill Elementary School and John F. Kennedy High School. Her adventurous nature and joy for life led her to then journey across the country in a Volkswagen Beetle, living for a brief period in San Bernardino, CA, before returning home to be close to her family. Shortly thereafter, she met her husband, Christopher Galvin. Together, aided by love, hard work and family, they spent the next 37 years building a life to be proud of, including raising three cherished children. Barbara was a loving mother and wife, with no occasion too small to be celebrated with family, friends and endless amounts of food, including her legendary homemade pizza. She was an expert seamstress and an exceptional cook, talents she likely inherited from her mother.
Throughout her illness Barbara remained quick to laugh, thoughtful and kind; ever herself. She loved the mountains of Austria and the beaches of Cape Cod and Rhode Island, all of which she was able to visit and share with family and friends this past year, and throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband Christopher, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Heather Pemberton and her husband Douglas of Harrison, Maine, and two sons, Jonathan Galvin and his wife Dina of Prospect and Jeffrey Galvin of Waterbury; her sister, Charlotte Kreischer of Waterbury and daughter Gabriele, her brother Josef Venditti and his wife Kathy of Sparta, North Carolina, and her sister Ingrid Riley and her husband Anthony of Thomaston and sons Patrick and Connor; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Janczyk-Nield and her husband Walter of Naugatuck and her sons Dylan and Shaun; her brother-in-law William Galvin and his wife Valerie of Woodbury and sons Willy, Jimmy and Joey; as well as by a loving great-niece and great-nephews.
Barbara’s family will forever be grateful for the comfort and care given to her by the VNA Health Care, Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Barbara’s memory to Hartford Healthcare at Home, 680 North Main St. Watertown CT 06795 or Woodbury - Bethlehem Parent Connection Inc. c/o Lesley Gomez, 23 Clubhouse Drive, Woodbury CT 06798
