Alexander P. McMinn, 81, of Woodbury, passed away on August 18th, 2018 at VITAS at St. Mary’s. A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and cherished friend.
He was the husband of Kathleen (Fergusson) McMinn, they were together 58 wonderful years. Born in Yonkers, New York, the son of Thomas McMinn and Rose (Richter) McMinn on July 14, 1937.
Alexander served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He was also a skilled mechanic and enjoyed working on various equipment.
Alexander was enthusiastic for golf, watching UConn Girls’ basketball, and attending his grandchildren’s events as a loyal fan. True to his giving spirit he volunteered countless hours to St. Teresa’s Church.
Alexander is survived by his wife Kathleen McMinn of Woodbury, sons Patrick and James, daughter Colleen. As well as, his brother Thomas, and sister Dorothy of California. He is also survived by his grandchildren who all lit up his life, Brenden, Morgan, Melissa, Jenna, Avery, Hannah, Joshua, and as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Without even trying he was an amazingly funny man. God has shared a wonderful gift with us all, a man who dearly loved his family and filled our lives with endless joy and laughter. All that knew him will forever remember his kind, gentle, and selfless ways, but most of all his smile; it was like sunshine and would brighten everyone’s day.
Memorial Mass will be held Saturday August 25, 2018 at 10:00A.M. at St. Teresa’s Church located 146 Main Street South Woodbury, Connecticut. Burial will occur Monday August 27, 2018 at the State Veterans Cemetery located 317 Bow Lane Middletown, Connecticut.
Memorial contributions may be made in Alexander’s name to St. Jude’s and/or Operation Smile.
