Aldo A. Manzi, November 5, 2019.  Husband of the late Virginia (Adams) Manzi, Mr. Manzi was born in Waterbury on November 24, 1924, son of Vincent and Carrie (Ventresca) Manzi.  He graduated from Crosby High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps after graduation as a cadet in the meteorology program at Brown University.  He served overseas as a sergeant with Airways Communications in the Marshall Islands.  In 1949, he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut.  He moved to Middlebury in 1957, and also had a home in Eastham (Cape Cod), Massachusetts.

Mr. Manzi was employed by Uniroyal Chemical for 45 ½ years and was Engineering Superintendent of the Chemical, Reclaim and Synthetic plants for several years.  At the time of his retirement, he was a Senior Construction Manager in the Corporate Engineering department, involved with the construction and technical assistance for domestic facilities in Louisiana and North Carolina as well as plants in Canada, England, Italy and Mexico.  He was also a registered professional engineer in the State of Connecticut.

Active in civic affairs in Middlebury, Mr. Manzi served as Chairman of the Library Board from 1969 to 1982 and was Chairman of the Building Committees for the present library as well as the first addition in 1981.  He was a member of the Republican Town Committee and also served as Chairman for the Water Commission that negotiated the major Waterbury connection that now serves Middlebury.  More recently, he was the Chairman of the Public Works Committee, Chairman of the last two Charter revisions and a member of the Water Commission.  He was a member of St. John of the Cross Church, where he ushered for many years.  He and his wife had a love of classical music and Renaissance art and visited many of the famous museums and churches in Italy and England.

Mr. Manzi is survived by his son, Stephen of Pleasantville, NY, and Stephen’s wife Carla (Egidi); a daughter, Andrea (Mrs. Steven Frank) of Framingham, MA, and Andrea’s husband Steven; grandsons Philip and Alexander Manzi; a sister, Helen (Mrs. Marcy Stango) of Waterbury; a brother, Thomas D.
