Alberta L. Lockhart

February 10, 1935 ~ November 18, 2019 (age 84)

Obituary

Alberta (Bert) L. (Staehle) Lockhart, 84, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital after a long battle with kidney disease.  She was the wife of the late Robert L. Lockhart and the daughter of the late William and Helen (Remmers) Staehle.

Bert was born February 10, 1935, in Abington Township, PA. She attended schools in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, before graduating high school in Florida.  The day after graduation, Bert traveled back to Connecticut to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Ed, and their new family in Middlebury.  After the rest of her family returned to Connecticut, she joined them in Wolcott.  It was during one of her visits to her sister’s home that she met the love of her life and future husband, Bob.  They were married in August of 1960.

Bert and Bob settled in Middlebury and raised a family.  While her family grew, she became an employee for Regional School District #15 (Middlebury/Southbury), she was also the Middlebury reporter and photographer for the Waterbury Republican and American newspapers, and earned an Associate Degree in Business from the former Post College (now University), went to work for Mattatuck Manufacturing in Waterbury, and eventually received an Associate Degree in Nursing from the former Mattatuck Community College (now know as Naugatuck Valley Community College).  She then began her career as a nurse at Griffin Hospital in Derby until her retirement in 2009.

In her free time Bert enjoyed listening to music (especially John Williams), going to Broadway plays and museums, reading mysteries by Mary Stewart and Agatha Christie and biographies, traveling to the coast of Maine, pampering her Maine Coon cats, and creating amazing meals for her family and friends.  Her favorite time spent was sitting around the dining room talking and laughing with her husband and kids.

Bert leaves behind her daughter, Diane, of Middlebury, sons Russell, of Bethlehem, David, of Harwinton, and Stuart and his wife, Karen, of Goshen.  She is also survived by her grandson, Cameron Lockhart of Thomaston, and granddaughter, Angelina Mobilia of Goshen, her brother and sister-in-law, William and Jean Staehle, of Phoenix, AZ, several nephews and nieces and numerous cousins.  She was pre-deceased by her sister, Lynn Phillips.
