Welcome to the memorial page for

William Edward Sands

October 4, 1959 ~ October 4, 2017 (age 58) 58 Years Old

SANDS, William (Billy) E., 58, of New London, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on October 4, 2017.  He was born on October 4, 1959 in Queens, NY to the late Edward W. and Janet (Conway) Sands.  Billy grew up in New City, NY and later moved to Brookfield, CT where he spent many wonderful years with his family and friends on Candlewood Lake.  Billy, affectionately known as “Cool Willy” by all his nieces and nephews, was always the center of attention.  His nieces and nephews, who were the light of his life, lit up whenever “Uncle Billy” walked into a room.  He had a charismatic personality and charm about him that got him through even the most trying times.

Billy loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.  He had a great sense of humor and was a kind hearted soul who would give you the shirt off his back even when he was struggling himself.  He was a talented carpenter and spent many hours helping family and friends building decks and renovating their homes and he shared that craft with others until his final days.  Most recently, he was the lead carpenter on an abandoned building renovation project for the Redeemed Christian Church of God in New London, CT.  Billy was so proud of his family, most especially his parents, and he strived in his final months to make them all proud of him.  The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Larry Lewis who was a kind and steadfast friend to Billy over the past year.

He is survived by his siblings, Diane (Jim) Gould of Slate Hill, NY, John (Leslie) Sands of Brookfield, CT, Joseph Sands of Bridgewater, CT and Pamela (Jay) Peck of Southbury, CT.  He also leaves behind his adored nieces and nephews, Cara (Nick) Turilli, Kaitlyn Gould, Kevin Gould, Deonna Gould, Joseph Peck, Connor Gould, Samantha Peck, Emily Sands, Shaughn Peck, Taylor Peck, Brooke Sands and Kimberly Sands and his great nephew Tripp Turilli and great niece Peyton Gould and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
