Obituary: Vivian Minor George, Southbury

SOUTHBURY — Vivian Minor George, 100, died Saturday, June 10, 2017, at River Glen Health Care Center, in peace and surrounded by loving family. She was the widow of Lloyd Foster George; the couple was married for 61 years.

Mrs. George was born August 2, 1916, in Waterbury, Conn., the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Minor. A longtime resident of Middlebury, she worked as an executive secretary at Scovill Manufacturing Company in Waterbury and later as a speech therapist for the Watertown school system. For many years, she was very actively involved in the Middlebury Congregational Church, helping to direct both the Sunday School program and the annual Strawberry Festival.

She was a compassionate, generous, enthusiastic, idealistic, and adventurous wife and mother. With her late husband, Lloyd, she enjoyed traveling around the world. She also delighted in visiting her family in Maryland and California, and sharing holidays and adventures with them. She brought a wonderfully resilient and positive spirit to everything she did, and was deeply loved by her family and by her many friends in Middlebury and later at the assisted living communities of The Hearth and River Glen in Southbury.

She leaves an extended family: Dickie and Lissa George, their children Timmy George and Libby Au, and Libby’s grandchildren Olivia and Charlie Au; and Don and Kuniko George, and their children, Jenny Davis and Jeremy George.

Arrangements will be handled by Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, Woodbury, CT

A private service will take place on Wednesday, June 14, at the Middlebury Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
