Thomas Joseph Talarico Sr.

April 19, 1924 ~ November 6, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old


Thomas Joseph Talarico, Sr., 93, of Oakville, died Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital Vitas Unit. He was the husband of Natalie (Manville) Talarico.

Thomas was born April 19, 1924 in Newtown, the son of the late Ralph Talarico and the late Angelina (Nicoletta) Mazzarella.  He lived in Woodbury for 73 years and later moved to Watertown.  He attended schools in Woodbury and worked on his family farm until he entered the United States Army.  Tom served in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Oakville Post 7330 and the American Legion Post 146 in Bethlehem.  He was employed by Southbury Training School for 33 years.  He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants and Uconn Basketball. 

Besides his wife of 71 years, he is survived by his daughters, Diana Harter (David) and Terri Downey (Matthew) and his son, Thomas Talarico Jr. (Joanne). He was the proud grandfather of his grandchildren Michele (Matt), Lauren (Jean-Guy), T.J. (Megan), Michael (Diana), Jessica (Michael), Kevin (Sara) and Megan, Stephen (May), David (Elaine), Gary, Krista, Michael (Ashlee) and Nick.  He also leaves 15 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Rose, and his brothers, Joseph, Louis, John and Frank.  He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank his caregivers Maryann and Kelly and all the friends and family that sat with him, visited with him, comforted him, conversed with him, laughed with him and treated him with respect and dignity. The family appreciates the assistance from everyone at Vitas for the short but compassionate guidance.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 9-11 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street, Woodbury, CT.  Burial will be at the family’s convenience.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
