Marilyn Ruth Miller, 91, passed away in Southbury, CT, after a period of declining health.

She was born January 15, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, the third of four daughters of George Graham and Nellie (Bailey) Miller.

Marilyn graduated from Crosby High School and Post Junior College of Commerce. She was secretary to the Shoreline Retriever Club, an active member of the Live Wires at the Waterbury Y.W.C.A., and past Worthy Advisor of the Assembly 13 Order of Rainbow Girls. After many years in the secretarial field, she returned to school where she received a B.S. Cum Laude, and an Ed.M. from the University of Hartford, where she was a member of Gamma Chi Rho, an honorary liberal arts sorority.

She taught English at Housatonic Valley Regional High School and Crosby High School, retiring in 1986. During her retirement years she owned and operated Meadowmere Kennel in Morris.

She was a life member of the Association of Retired Teachers of Connecticut and of the Waterbury Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. She trained, showed, and hunted with her own Labrador Retrievers.

In 2010, Marilyn was welcomed into the Trumbull-Porter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Her Patriot ancestor is Abraham Todd, Jr. of Westchester County, NY.

She is survived by her niece, Marilyn Smith-Cotterell, with husband Mark, and grandniece Anya Katherine; niece Melissa Smith-Sattler, with husband Casey, and grandniece Zoë Estelle; niece Janet Smith-Ubaldi, with husband Charles, and grandniece Bailey Starr; nephew Roy Andrew Smith; niece Rev. Nancy Milton, and grandnieces Beth Ann and Deb, along with grandnephew Paul; niece Elizabeth Frisbie, and grandniece Nancy, along with grandnephews Thomas and Jonathan; niece Rev. Julia Wilson; nephew George Wilson with wife Peg; and many other dear cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her adopted daughter Patricia A. Perriello, her eldest sister Estelle Akins and husband Irving, her older sister May Wilson and husband Franklin, her younger sister Shirley Smith and husband Roy, and her nephews Douglas Wilson and Ed Frisbie.

A memorial service will be held at the Watertown United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM, Saturday October 21, 2017, with interment to follow at Lake Elise in Middlebury.
