She had a deep appreciation of the natural world, taught her many pupils to love and respect nature, and was an avid gardener. She supported the Nature Conservancy, Audubon society, Cornell lab of Ornithology and the World Wildlife Fund, and in her later years enjoyed sitting on her patio surrounded by flowers, birds, trees and her beloved dog Coco.

In addition to her parents Peggy was predeceased by her brother John Woodward. She is survived by her former husband George D. Ftikas and his wife Dorothy, of Falls Church, Virginia, her cousins, Wendy Brandow and Austin Woodward, both of New York, and good friends David Mullins of Southbury and Lynne Penczer of Fairfield, as well as three Nieces.
