Margaret (Meston) Breg

January 1, 1923 ~ August 1, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old


Margaret Breg, 94, of Southbury, CT passed away on Aug. 1st after a brief illness.  She was the wife of W. Roy Breg, M.D.

   Mrs. Breg, the daughter of Archibald and Florence Meston, spent most of her childhood in New Jersey, graduating from Bound Brook High School.  She received a B.Sc. from Bucknell University and a M.Sc. in Nursing from Yale University.

   Margaret and Roy were married in 1948.  After living in a number of states and spending a year in Japan, they moved to Southbury in 1954 and she resided there until her death. 

   Margaret was very active in church and community affairs and received Southbury's Volunteer of the Year award the first year it was given out.  A member of the United Church of Christ in Southbury, Margaret was a Deacon, the church archivist, a choir member, and president of the Women's Fellowship.  She was a founding member of the Southbury Garden Club and served in leadership roles in the Inland Wetlands Agency, the Southbury Land Trust, Bent of the River Audubon Center, the League of Women's Voters, and the American Field Service.

   She is survived by her beloved husband Roy and four children: Betsy and her husband Paul Masson of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, William and his wife Noel of Watertown, Daniel of Sacramento, and David and his partner Kathleen McCarthy of Baltimore.    Margaret is also survived by three grandsons: Robert and his wife Laura Masson of Seattle, Nathaniel Breg of Pittsburgh and Alexander Breg of Dearborn, MI as well as a great-grandson Oliver Masson.  Also surviving her is her brother Forbes Meston of Mystic, CT.

   A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 5th at 11 am in the United Church of Christ, Southbury at 283 Main Street North.  A reception in the Church Social Hall is to follow.

   Donations in Margaret's memory may be made to the Bent of the River Audubon Center at 185 E. Flat Hill Rd., Southbury, CT 06488  or the Southbury Land Trust at 134 Main St. S,  No. 68 1/2 in Southbury. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
