Gerald (Jerry) Yacavone Jr., age 75, of Southbury, beloved husband of the late Vickie (Hines)Yacavone, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on December 27th at Yale New Haven Hospital.

The son of Gerald and Angeline Yacavone, Jerry was born December 13, 1942 in Cortland NY. He grew up in Cortland, and was a graduate of Cortland High School. He received his bachelors degree in hotel restaurant management from Georgetown University and was an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam. Following an honorable discharge from his military service, Jerry and two partners purchased and operated the Shamrock Inn in Cortland, New York. He later managed the Cortland Country Club.  In 1975 he relocated with his family to Trumbull Connecticut where he managed Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, and then Rock Ridge Country Club in Newtown. He and his wife Vickie also owned and operated Delectables Gourmet Food Shop and Catering in Monroe.

Jerry was married to his beloved wife Vickie for 40 years, before her passing in 2010. Following the loss of the love of his life, he went on to fill his time working part time at Stockbridge Cheesecakes in Shelton, cooking, and taking painting classes.  In addition, he was an active parishioner at St. Mary Church in Bethel where he volunteered in their bereavement group. He loved spending as much time as possible with friends-both old and new- as he was affectionately "adopted" by many who met him. Whether attending a cookie swap, a  reunion with his dear friends from high school, or dinner out with his cherished friend and neighbor Beverly Ligouri, he was loved, admired and respected by all who met him.

Perhaps his greatest legacy is the love that he had for his family. Affectionately know as "Papa" to his eight grandchildren, he spent as much time with each of them as possible. He seldom missed an event in any of their lives, attending dance recitals, sporting events, graduations, and anything and everything in between. Traveling back and forth to Cortland, Saratoga NY and Mooresville NC, Jerry kept in touch with family and old friends that were dear to him. His sense of humor, creativeness, and devotion to those he loved will be greatly missed by all.

Jerry is survived by his four children and their spouses; Michael Yacavone and his wife Linda of Naugatuck, CT, Terri Garrity and her husband Gary of Derby, CT, James Yacavone and his wife Gail of Mooresville, NC, and Jerry Yacavone of Shelton, CT; his eight grandchildren; Sarah and  Christopher Yacavone, Timothy and Kaitlin Garrity, James and Adrianne Yacavone, and Mark and Emma Yacavone; his sisters Laurene Biviano of Saratoga NY and Dee Strauf of Homer, NY, and several loving nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at 10:00 am meeting directly at St Mary Church, 28 Dodgingtown Rd., in Bethel, CT, 06801.  Internment will follow in St Mary Cemetery.
