Frederick Morehead Obituary

Frederick Morehead 88, passed away on January 21 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Haskel) Morehead and the devoted father of Laura Gleeson, James Morehead (Karen), Elizabeth Bella (Dan), John Morehead and Sarah Barden (John).

He was born July 30, 1929 in Roanoke, Virginia, to Frederick and Laura (Fox) Morehead. Frederick earned his BA Chemistry degree and his MS in Physical Chemistry at Swarthmore College. He acquired his PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin. After his graduation Frederick worked for GE and then going on to work at IBM in the research department for 35 years. After retiring from IBM, he became an Adjunct Lecturer, in Chemistry at UConn in Waterbury, CT from 1999-2012.

Frederick contributed chapters to books and published over 60 articles to professional Journals. He had been a member of the Southbury Democratic Committee, Zoning Commission, and the Water and Pollution Control Commission. He served on the Heritage Village Ambulance Association. Frederick was named in the 2001 edition of ‘Who’s Who in America’.

Frederick enjoyed his time in Heritage Village with his wife for over 25 years. This is where he bravely and uncomplainingly fought chronic illness over the past several years.

In addition to his wife Joyce and children, Frederick will be missed by his beloved grandchildren, Melissa Hagan (Ben), Kyle Bella, Joseph Barden and Robert Barden. Great grandchild Joseph Hagen. He also leaves, stepchildren, Liz (Tony), Adam, Paul (Celeste) and step-grandchildren Aaron, Melina and Justin Haskel.
