Francis "Frank" Danahy

June 10, 1929 ~ May 22, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Francis L. Danahy, Jr. (Frank), 87, of Southbury, CT, passed away on May 22, 2017 following a brief illness.  Born on June 10, 1929 in Schenectady, NY, he was the eldest child of Francis and Mary (Thompson) Danahy.  He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Mary Anne (Dwyer) Danahy, and a large family who will miss him greatly.

Frank loved music and played trumpet with his band as a young man.  He served in the Air Force, then attended Syracuse University.  He worked for IBM, then Citibank in New York City, where he spent most of his career as a commercial banker, except for two years with a small company in Cody, Wyoming.  Frank loved the Rocky Mountains, the Hudson River Valley and the vitality and diversity of New York City.  He also loved the opera, art, motorcycles and auto racing.  He appreciated a beautiful day, a scenic view and a good bowl of ice cream.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Philip Danahy (wife Betty), 5 children:  Katie Samuelson (husband Bill), Denise Duffy (husband Paul), Michael Danahy, Mary Anne Danahy, John Danahy (wife Jennifer), and daughter-in-law Mary Danahy (husband Andy Sammel).  He was predeceased by his son, Patrick Danahy, who died on September 11, 2001, and by his sister, Alice Danahy.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren:  Clare, Kristen and Matthew Samuelson; Erin and John Duffy; Alison, Katie and Grace Danahy; Sean and Ryan Danahy, and Allie Citarella.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 11:00 at St Teresa of Avila Church, 146 Main St South, Woodbury, CT.  Friends and family may pay their respects Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St, Woodbury, CT.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to support Children of the Light orphanage in Honduras:  Heart 4 Children, PO Box 47, Tomball, TX 77377.
