Ethel Agnes Side

It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Ethel Agnes Side on January 23, 2017, but with great joy that we were blessed to have this wonderful woman in our lives for almost 97 years.  Born on March 14, 1920 in Brooklyn NY. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Ethel Berger of Garden City, NY. Ethel graduated from Jamaica High School and attended Adelphi College.

She married the love of her life, Arthur in 1940 and they settled in Franklin Square Long Island and raised four daughters.  Ethel was very active with the Sewanhaka Council of Girl Scouts, President of the PTA and the United Presbyterian Church. After Arty retired they moved to Woodbury, CT where Ethel became very active at The North Congregational Church, serving  as a Deacon, Chair of the Diaconate, President of  Women’s Fellowship, Chairperson of the Music Committee, Assistant to the Parish Administrator and Confidant to the Minister. Ethel affectionately became known as “The Church Lady.” Ethel  received the Oliver Wolcott Masonic Award for Community Service as well as a Certificate of Recognition by the State Board of Connecticut Women of the United Church of Christ.

 

Ethel is predeceased by her parents and beloved husband Arty of 51 years, her sister Ruth Morell Nickol and Sons-in-law Frank Wolff, Richard Koeper and Gene Albright. Survivors include her four daughters, Arlene Wolff of  Cordova MD, Patricia Koeper of Woodbury, Lynda Albright of Glens Falls NY, and Claudia Braverman and husband Sidney of Woodbury. She cherished time spent with her Grandchildren, David Albright and wife Lisa, Bonnie Albright, Liisa Koeper Canalori, Kristen Drake and husband Chris, Patrick Wolff and Barbara Wolff Zaveski and husband John, Seth Braverman and Rachel Braverman. She felt blessed having eight Great Grand Children, David Albright, Bryan Albright, Yael Pelenur (Albright), Isaac Pelenur (Albright), Richard Jack Canalori (Koeper), Jillian Stahler, Erin Bednoski, Stephan Clacherty and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

Friends may call prior to the funeral on Friday January 27th from 12:00 to 1:00 at the North Congregational Church in Woodbury, CT. A funeral service will be held at 1:00. Burial will take place immediately after the funeral at the New North Cemetery in Woodbury followed by a reception back at the church.
