Donald Rulli

August 28, 1932 ~ January 17, 2018 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Donald R. Rulli, 85 of Woodbury, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the VITAS Hospice Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, CT. He was the husband of Beverly (Young) Rulli.

Don was born August 28, 1932, in New Britain, CT., the son of the late Dominic John Rulli of Bristol, CT, and Eleanor Carrier of New Britain, CT.

Don graduated from New Britain Senior HS in 1951. Don served in the US Air Force, Strategic Air Command (SAC), during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956, having been stationed at Greenham Common A.F.B. in Fairford, England. While stationed at Davis Monthan A.F.B., Tucson, Arizona, he was nominated Airman of the Month and was acknowledged for designing and implementing numerous techniques to better service the B-47 aircrafts. He received an honorable discharge, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Don was extremely proud of his service in the Air Force.

Upon Completing his military service, Don worked at Kalart Victor Corporation, Plainville, CT, producers of sound projectors for large facilities, for 20 years as Plant Manager and Plant Control Manager. At the same time, attending the University of Hartford evening classes for eight years, under the GI Bill.

In 1977 he became the owner and president of the Rita/Ritta Personnel Services of Danbury for ten years. In 1987 he was named General Manager of UNI/Search of Waterbury, responsible for overseeing all aspects of permanent placement activity.

Don, after retirement was employed at ACE Hardware, Woodbury, for the past 15 years, working right up until December 22, 2017.

Don was a former officer of the Plainville Chamber of Commerce and also the Plainville Lions Club. While living in Forestville, CT, for 21 years, he was also active with the Cub Scout Program of St. Matthews Church, acting as Pack Chief.

Don was an avid reader, especially everything about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. His dream was to become a History Teacher. He also enjoyed working in his yard and doing everything he could with his grandchildren, who he adored.

Having been married for 62 year, Don always had affectionate love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He also loved the people he worked with and met at ACE Hardware. In a way, they were his family also.

Don’s family would also like to thank Lynn and the staff at VITAS Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital for their undeniable affection and compassion. They are truly “God’s Angels”.

Don leaves his son Donald and his wife Donna, of Newington, CT., Robert and his fiancée Karin, of Middletown, RI., and Cathleen and her fiancée Stephen of Sandy Hook, CT. He leaves six grandchildren, Donald (DJ) Rulli who predeceased him in 2015, Zachary Rulli and his fiancée Leigh of Plymouth, MA., Michael Rulli and Melissa and her husband Josh Perkins of Skaneateles, NY, and Jennifer and Allison Indelicato, of Sandy Hook, CT. He leaves two great grandchildren, Aria Lynn and Levi Perkins, of Skaneateles. He also leaves his half-sister, Linda Arena of Wethersfield, CT.
