Blaine: I can still see Cris on the courts at Middlebury having a ball when even in my stronger game of tennis his shots were always a challenge to return. Then also when I
hadn't seen him in a while, I think I was one of the lucky ladies to always get a hug from him.
I knew he was working on writing family books but didn't realize he had written four.My
sympathy to all of you for losing such a special man.

Hi Blaine....I am very sorry to hear about Chris's passing. I knew him from playing ping-pong with the senior group. In fact, we were a team at the Masters in Hartford a few years ago and we won the silver medal. To me, he was quite the gentleman, a good sport and a wonderful guy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Dick Paltauf

I am Extremely saddened of the passing of a man I can genuinely call my papa from another family. I've had the grand honor of knowing papa and enjoying the lake house and its many perks from when I was a little girl. He was easy to get along with and love as much as I love my own grandparents. His big smile definitely had a large impact on me and I will miss him with all my heart. I'm glad I got to know and love papa and remember his happy times watching me and Hannah put on "shows" for him up at the lake. Rest easy papa xoxo

Dear Blaine,
I can only imagine your grief at losing a wonderful husband. This is a sad time for the larger community of Woodbury/Southbury as well. I am sorry that Dick and I were unaware of Cris' Deerfield roots. Dick was Mount Hermon - 1954, now Northfield Mount Hermon School. They perhaps met at sporting events as the two schools were in close proximity and perhaps rivals.

If I can be of any help due to some our parallel life experiences, please phone or email. Seek solace in the proximity of your daughters and grandchildren. I empathize with their loss of their father and granddad as well.

Sincerely, Marge Hubbard

Dear Blaine and the Schaefer Family,

Our sincere condolences to you and your family. Cris was one of the most positive influences in my business career at Hubbell. He was widely loved by everyone he met. We will all miss him but will be very happy that he touched our lives. I'm so glad that we got to have dinner with you both last summer.
Sincerely,
Bob & Georgiann Murphy

I am extremely sadden by the passing of Cris. I was fortunate to have worked with Cris
at Kellems, Hubbell Div., The last time I saw him he seemed healthy as an ox. He gave
us copies of the book he had written about his father. I enjoyed it. All my thoughts of
Cris are happy ones. Everyone speaks of his healthy handshake, which is true, but he used to make us smile when he made his lunch. Slam. bang, pow!! He'd line up his bread , then put the makings of his sandwich in there and then slam , bang, pow, the other slice of bread . He was a generous, kind and considerate person , and I shall miss him very much. There are so many more good things I can say about him but sadly I
will end it here. It was my pleasure .
Oh, and my husband George sends his condolences and wouldn't you know, one thing
he remembered was Cris' handshake.

I will always remember our winter church youth group trip to the Kancamangus Trail where Cris led us on snow shoes to the top of some obscure mountain. We also had to stop at the lake cottage so he could show us his beautiful Landlocked Salmon that he had caught in Lake Winnipesaukee. He truly loved the outdoors and had a profound way of sharing it with all those who came in contact with him. Rest in peace my friend...

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Cris when I was in marketing with Hubbell and he was always so positive, upbeat and supportive of my efforts there.

Hubbell has an award ring that I only wear during sales meetings and I still remember the times I forgot to slip it off before shaking Cris's hand! With a ring on, his handshake really did leave a lasting impression.

I will keep Cris and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I will always remember Cris as a kind, caring, and strong individual with a sense of adventure. He had an unyielding compassion for everyone, including the youth of North Congregational Church. He was always there to ensure that we all knew that we were children of God. His generosity will be remembered and Cris and will be missed. May you all be surrounded by love and your family and friends during this difficult time. Cris was a blessing to know.
