 Calvin Charles Cooper died May 6, 2017 in Southbury, Connecticut. He was 90 years old. 

      Born September 6, 1926 at home in Lyndonville, New York, he was the youngest of six children born to Mary Ann Miller and George Leroy Cooper. The family raised apples, cherries, peaches, sheep, cows and other ventures on general farms near Lake Ontario. He graduated from Lyndonville High School. 

     Cal was drafted into the US Army Air Force in 1945 and served in the Philippines as a construction equipment operator. 

     After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1950. He was also awarded a Master’s degree in 1952 and a PhD in Horticulture in 1954 from Michigan State University. 

     He joined Union Carbide Corporation in 1954 working in their plastics division as a marketing manager. Among the projects he worked on were the early use of plastic sheeting in agriculture, erosion control, food packaging, and for freezing blood donations. 

     He married Margaret Saulsbury Sisco on October 1, 1955 in Milburn, New Jersey. During their 61-year marriage the couple lived in Plainfield and Upper Montclair, New Jersey; La Grange, Illinois; and Darien, Connecticut. They moved to Heritage Village, Southbury, Connecticut in 2001. 

     Cal was an avid gardener, adept at baking bread, and an advocate for those who might otherwise be overlooked. 

     Cal is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Calvin Charles Cooper Jr. and his wife Carol, Mary Cooper Feliz and her husband George, Eileen Sisco Cooper Ahvenainen and her husband Paul; and six grandchildren, James, David, Meghan, Michael, Margaret, and Edward.   

     A private memorial will be held at a later date.
