Bruce Alexander Lyle

June 22, 1940 ~ October 11, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Bruce Alexander Lyle, 77, husband of Jeanne-Marie Warner Lyle, passed away Wednesday October, 11 at home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on June 22, 1940, in Rutland, VT., the only child of Dr. Walter I. Lyle and Elizabeth Grunshaw Lyle. He moved to Wareham, MA when he was 2, attended local schools and graduated from Wareham High School. He attended Boston University where he received an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts.

Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Navy, as an electronics technician at Willow Grove Naval Air Station from 1963-1966. He often joked about never seeing a gangplank or being on a ship.

Bruce moved to Woodbury in 1966. He owned and operated Melbourn Power Equipment in Naugatuck for several years. In 1973, he became a police officer where he provided guidance and counsel to his fellow officers and townspeople. He proudly served the Town Of Woodbury for 31 years.

Bruce was a charter member of the Woodbury Volunteer Ambulance Association serving as first operations officer. He is responsible for naming the ambulance “Angel One”.

Firefighting was a lifelong passion for Bruce. At the age of 16, he joined the Wareham, MA. Fire Department. While at Willow Grove, he served on the Horsham, PA. Fire Dept. and after moving to Woodbury, he joined the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept., where he was a member for over 28 years. The last officer position he held was Captain of Orenaug Fire Company.

Bruce was a man of many, many talents. He enjoyed working with his hands. He especially enjoyed woodworking and built many Pinewood Derby cars for Cub Pack 54‘s Business Cup Challenge. He was always there to help any child or family who needed assistance.

He loved to travel with his 5th Wheel Campers, having made 5 cross country trips, visiting all lower 48 states and many Canadian Provinces. When he cruised to Alaska and Hawaii, he could now say he visited all 50 states.

Besides his wife of 32 years, he leaves his son Richard Lyle and his grandson Andrew Lyle and his wife Samantha of Southbury. He is predeceased by his son, Douglas Lyle and survived by his grandson Christopher Lyle of VA. He also leaves behind his loving brother in law, Lee Warner, his wife Mary Ellen and his nephew Aleksey of Woodbury, his sister in law, Janet Brooks and her husband James Brooks of El Mirage, AZ.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided by his caregivers, especially Samantha, Tiffany, and Kathy.
