Barbara Lee (Machia) Kaempfer, 81, passed away October 31, 2017, in Waterbury. She was the beloved wife of John Donald Kaempfer, who grew up in Monroe. Barbara was born on October 30, 1936 in Bridgeport, daughter of Helen (Weir) Machia and Leslie Machia.
Barbara grew up in Bridgeport and attended Warren Harding High School. Barbara was a hard-working wife and mother who worked from the age of 16 up until she was 75 years old. During her life she held several jobs, including working in the Emergency Room at St. Vincent’s Hospital, at Western CT State University, and the Southbury Training School.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren. Some of her talents included making Halloween costumes and baking. She was especially known for her pies, and during the holidays would make apple and pumpkin pies for family, friends, and coworkers.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Susan and her husband Edward Kaeser, of Storrs, and Holly and her husband David Taylor, of Southbury; her sisters Linda Kobza and Robin Plamadon; her four grandchildren, Sarah Wojiski and husband David Grimes, Eric Kaeser, Justin Kaeser, and Ryan Kaeser; her two great-grandaughters, Nora Grimes and Eva Grimes; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, November 5 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street, Woodbury, CT. A funeral service will be held Monday November 6, 2017 at 10:00am with burial immediately following at Cutlers Farm Cemetery on Cross Hill Rd., in Monroe.
